01 — The shop

The walls do most of the talking.

Framed flash from the counter to the ceiling. Panels of line drawings across the front of the desk. A barber chair parked in the middle of the floor, red doors at the back of the room, and two leather chairs with a small table for whoever is waiting.

The front window puts it in two words: Custom & Flash. Turn up with a reference and a rough idea, or point at something already on the wall — the wall is the sample book, and it goes all the way up.

A room papered in people.

The piercing room's walls are covered — every inch of them — with photographs of the people who have sat on that table. The counter is lined with tools; the sharps bin sits underneath it.

They were great. Brought my 17 yo daughter in to get her a second set of ear piercings. We did a walk in and only waited about :10. The piercer was super professional . He took the time to align the holes along the natural lines of the ear and had both of us approve. He talked us through every step. We waited for several minutes while we waited for the tools to sterilize. He would start until she was completely comfortable. Cleanliness was a huge priority. We watched someone clean the lobby area while we waited. The piercer wore a mask and went through several pairs of gloves. All of the tools were sterilized or came out of a sterile packing material. He wiped down the chair and tables with alcohol while he was explaining the after care. Everyone that we experienced was more than friendly and everyone said hi and thanked us for coming in. Highly recommend Irish Ink!

Bret was awesome! You can tell he’s been doing this a long time. Very knowledgeable and passionate. Somehow I got my nose hoop ring stuck in my nose. He was very thorough going through all the possible scenarios. Also gave me tips and tricks for making sure it doesn’t happen again. I didn’t even get pierced here but he definitely has a future client! Thanks Bret!

Read the four together and the same page keeps turning up: a six-year-old's first lobes, a seventeen-year-old's seconds, and someone with a nose hoop stuck who hadn't been pierced here at all. Three names come up across them — Bret, cat and James, spelled the way the reviewers spelled them. That is a fairly specific kind of reputation for a tattoo shop to have.
